International precision agriculture provider AgriTask has introduced the world’s first digital claims management system for insurance companies operating in the agricultural sector. After a comprehensive assessment of the requirements of several insurance companies, AgriTask teamed up with Mapfre, one of the largest Latin American insurance companies and the biggest in the agricultural sector.
The first application was developed jointly with Mapfre’s subsidiary in Paraguay to manage inspections and claim reports directly with the use of AgriTask’s platform.
Mapfre Paraguay recently started conducting damage inspections involving maize and soybean policies with the AgriTask platform and its novel mobile app. The evaluation is performed digitally after the relevant data is fed into the AgriTask platform through the app, which is able to automatically calculate compensations.
Relevant geographical information of plots covered by insurance is fully integrated into the system. Inspection protocols are correlated to the actual location of all policyholders. This gives Mapfre full-scale access to its customer base enabling the company to plan and follow up on inspections directly on digital maps in the AgriTask platform.
The new application that was specifically developed to meet the needs of the insurance industry combines AgriTask’s capabilities in the field of precision agriculture with Mapfre’s knowledge in insurance in the agricultural sector. The next step, after the claims management system is successfully operational, is to develop additional products in the areas of risk assessment and compliance to enable Mapfre to better differentiate itself from its competitors. AgriTask’s ability to integrate and process a wide range of climatic and agronomic data sources will enable Mapfre to access new digital tools for assessment, analysis and decision making.
“Due to the remote location of our customer base, we used to lose a lot of time from the actual disaster to damage assessment and settling the claim,” says Alfredo Villanueva, international insurance advisor of the agricultural insurance department of Mapfre. He adds that “all these steps can now be managed through one system improving customer service and making our operations far more efficient and agile.”
AgriTask was founded by Israel Fraier (Chairman and CEO) and Yuri Magrisso (CTO). The two collaborated in the past in building a previous venture, Cellutag (mobile terminals for field workers). Fraier is a serial entrepreneur, who previously founded and managed four high-tech ventures in the field of airborne surveillance, medical endoscopy, knowledge management software, and hardware / software solutions for field workers.
“Insurance companies in the agricultural sector have a critical need for comprehensive digital based solutions for collecting, processing and analyzing large amount of data and this is AgriTask’s greatest strength,” says Israel Fraier, CEO and co-founder of AgriTask. He notes that after extensive experience with growers in Latin American and particularly Brazil, AgriTask was ready to expand to the agricultural insurance sector.
AgriTask’s proprietary BI platform and operating system for agriculture are revolutionizing the adoption of digitization and technology in the agricultural sector by both farmers and mangers. Rather than trying to educate farmers, AgriTask is able to integrate their experience with advanced technologies without changing their work habits. The company is currently serving all main segments of the agriculture industry: farmers and their associations, buyers, insurance, forestry and government projects. AgriTask enjoys an advantage with 90% of pilots converted into full-scale projects by clients. This in turn gives the company access to agronomic data for developing actionable AI products.
Mapfre is a global insurance company. It is the third largest insurance group in Latin America and the leading company in non-life insurance across the region. Mapfre operates in over 100 countries, has over 36,000 employees in 5,400 offices and works through a network of 84,000 brokers.
