Augmented reality tech firm Mira is the first project to launch from the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.
The Defiant Ones legendary record producer Jimmy Iovine and hip hop mogul Dr Dre gave $70 million to USC for the creation of the academy through an endowment.
Mira was funded with $1.5 million from Sequoia Capital, Marc Benioff, Will.i.am and Troy Capital Partners.
The augmented reality unit overlays holographic images on real world images to create an immersive and interactive world engulfing the user.
Requiring only a smartphone and Mira glasses you need not worry about plugs, wires or cables to use the unit. Your phone easily and comfortably fits in the Mira Prism headset.
New apps are developing everyday expanding the use of the augmented reality unit and the eventual ability to develop your own apps on the platform.
Mira’s website has the unit as a regular price of $149 but with a special pre-order price of $99.

While the startup is the first to come out of the academy with outside funding USC, Jimmy and Dre have no financial interest in Mira.
The University of Southern California is one of the United States most diverse university campuses.
The academy is focused on creating an environment bringing together and nurturing visionary collaboration between students and faculty.
This upcoming school year 113 students commence their journey in the academy under a different kind of teaching and learning model designed for developing the necessary skills to propel our generations to come with breakthrough technologies continually looking to disrupt the status quo.
